Frequently Asked
Questions

How often are financial statements updated?

We update and publish our audited financial statements annually, typically within a few months after the close of our fiscal year. For ongoing transparency, we also post our IRS Form 990 and Annual Reports on this page as they become available.

What does HOPE’s fiscal calendar reporting look like?

Before 2025, HOPE operated under a calendar year schedule (January-December). In 2025, we shifted to a fiscal year schedule (October 1-September 30). This means that our financial report in 2025 will cover a shortened transition period from January 2025-September 2025. Future annual reports, audits, and 990s will reflect the new fiscal year timeframe. There is no impact on donations, donor receipts, or our 501(c)(3) status.

Shifting to a fiscal year better aligns our financial and programmatic reporting with our operational cycle and funding calendar. This will allow for clearer planning, more strategic budgeting, and better alignment with the budgeting process for many of our partners.

Are HOPE financial statements independently audited?

Yes. Our financials are reviewed and audited each year by a licensed, third-party Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm.

How does HOPE allocate its budget?

We aim to allocate a minimum of 90 percent our total expenses directly to programs and services. The remaining percentage covers essential administrative and fundraising  costs, ensuring the sustainability of our operations.

How does HOPE ensure financial transparency and accountability?

Our Board of Directors and Finance Committee regularly review financials. We also conduct annual audits, maintain internal controls, publish financial reports for public access, and comply with state and federal regulations.

How is HOPE evaluated for fiscal responsibility?

HOPE has received the highest marks from many of the top nonprofit / charity evaluators for many consecutive years. This includes the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency, Charity Navigator Four-Star Charity Rating , CharityWatch Top Rated Charity – Grade A, and Great Nonprofits Top Rated Nonprofit rating.
