Join HOPE in celebrating our June 2021 Volunteer of the Month, Shannon Anthony.

One of our main goals at HOPE is to help our veterans and military families discover that through our programs, they can live the life they hoped for themselves and give back to their fellow military families. This month’s Volunteer of the Month, Shannon Anthony, was nominated by HOPE social worker Savannah Smith for doing just that!

In 2019, Shannon and her family joined our HOPE family. Over the past two years, Shannon has become a Resilient Family Alumni, has been an active member of our Caregiver Resource HUB, and has been a two-time recipient of our Holiday Giving Initiative.

The support that she has received at HOPE has inspired Shannon to give back to this year’s Holiday Giving Initiative. With the help of her best friend and Usborne consultant Kaylin, Shannon will be hosting an Usborne book party on June 24, where proceeds will be donated to HOPE to buy books for military children receiving gifts during this year’s Holiday Giving Initiative. The party will also offer an option to purchase books for military children or direct donations to the Holiday Giving Initiative.

In a recent interview with a HOPE staff member, Shannon, a mom of 4, shares, “I remember our family being in a really bad place financially while my husband was in treatments and recovering and I had no idea how I was going to make Christmas work for our family. I had reached out to HOPE and was told I could be supported through the Holiday Giving Initiative. That December, I met with a HOPE staff member to collect the presents for our children, and when they opened the trunk to their car, I was reduced to tears. I had no idea the magnitude of support my family would receive that day from this program. I was left completely speechless, and that Christmas was truly memorable despite that year’s challenges. I knew from that moment when we were more stable, I needed to do something to give the HOPE I had received to others.”

Savannah, the HOPE social worker who has had the pleasure of getting to know Shannon and her family shares, “Shannon is an advocate for her husband and herself. She is a warm and genuine person that is an open book in sharing her story and the challenges she has navigated as a caregiver to her Marine veteran husband. She is the definition of resilience and has persevered through some truly tough times. She is an inspiration to everyone around her! Her hosting this party to support her fellow military families is a true representation of the type of person she is.”

The Usborne Book Fair will kick off on June 24.  To join the book fair, click here or access it from this Facebook Event page. Join Shannon and HOPE in making Christmas memorable for some very deserving military children and families.
