Although our celebration of our December Volunteer of the Month, Joe Gajewski, also known as Buffalo Joe, of the FDNY, isn’t as grand as New Year’s Eve in Times Square, daily, we are grateful for Joe’s support of HOPE.
Ringing in the new year in Times Square with military families alongside the FDNY and NYPD is a long-standing tradition for HOPE. A tradition that would never stand the test of time if volunteers like Joe were not behind the scenes making this an unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime evening.
With a true servant’s heart, Joe goes above and beyond to show his support and respect for veterans and military families. He takes on any challenge with a smile on his face. For too many years to count, Joe has been our go-to guy when planning the New Year’s Eve dinner at an FDNY firehouse. One year, he even saved the day and helped a fellow firefighter cook over 60 meals for the military families attending the New Year’s Eve festivities.
Beyond the New Year’s Eve event, Joe is one of the lead volunteers of the Rockaway Warrior Weekend summer event in Breezy Point, NY. This one–of–a–kind event is a fun–filled family weekend jam–packed with water activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, and more! Warrior Weekend begins with cheers of gratitude from the community during a welcome parade and ends with a sunset boat ride around the Statue of Liberty and family luau— it truly exemplifies patriotism.
Thank you, Joe, for not only your brave service to your community but all you do to support the warrior community!
