Love comes in all different forms. Whether it’s a spouse, family member, best friend, or battle buddy, we all have people in our life who we hold close to our hearts. Serving together forms an unbreakable bond, on active duty or as a military family. However, with obligations pulling us in all different directions and everyday stressors, it can be challenging to find the time to check in on those individuals.

This Valentine’s Day, HOPE is encouraging our warrior community to block off some time to reconnect with those they served with and celebrate those relationships! Whether it’s a simple text, phone call, or grabbing a bite to eat, the benefits of this effort can be far-reaching.

Over the past decade, there has been an increase in mental health statistics among the military community. Since 2001, nearly 30% of active-duty service members have been diagnosed with a mental health condition that requires treatment. Military families also struggle as 29.1% of spouses have been diagnosed with a mental illness and 17.8% of children have received mental health services in a specialty setting. This can impact the ability to maintain relationships and prevent those affected from seeking the proper care because of the stigma associated with mental health conditions.

How You Can Help

Hope For The Warriors is calling on YOU to step up and be a support system to your military community.

  • Reach out to those who may be suffering or reluctant to seek help.
  • Ask questions and actively listen so you can better understand what they need.
  • Understand the warning signs and risk factors associated with mental health and suicide.
  • Provide resources and let them know help is available.
  • Be there as a shoulder to lean on.
