Join us in celebrating Michael Nehlsen as HOPE’s October 2021 Volunteer of the Month.

Seven years ago, Nehlsen dreamed of combining his love for riding his Harley-Davidson with his passion and volunteerism on Hope For The Warriors Warrior’s Wish Committee. For the past seven years, Nehlsen has traveled over 30,000 miles within various regions of the U.S. and has raised over $253,000 to grant life changing wishes to combat-wounded veterans through Warrior’s Wish. A few wishes his efforts supported consisted of woodworking and farm equipment, family trips, horse trailer, bass boat, bicycles, and more.

In 2021, Nehlsen organized a ride consisting of veterans and military supporters to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the work HOPE has done over the last 15 years supporting those who answered the call to fight for our freedoms after that day. On their journey, they rode to each of the national 9/11 memorials. Nehlsen shares, “The team of riders and support staff that accompanied me this year made the importance and impact of the journey from the NYC Ground Zero Memorial to the Flight 93 Memorial and finally to the Pentagon Memorial a lifetime memory of brotherhood and sisterhood. We also met a lot of wonderful people along the way who have made a lifetime impact on me and I am sure all the others on the ride would agree. This year’s ride solidified the very reason I started this journey seven years ago and will continue in the future. God Bless America and all our brothers and sisters who have served in our great nation’s military both past and present.”

Susan Olak, HOPE’s Fundraising and Digital Manager, who has supported Nehlsen and Riding For The Warriors over the years shares, “Michael’s passion for supporting his fellow veterans and military families is awe-inspiring. Each year, he looks for ways to grow the Riding For Warriors initiative in communities across the U.S.A. to impact the lives of many. We at HOPE are truly blessed to have him as an ambassador of our organization.”

Michael Nehlsen is an Air Force Veteran and New Jersey native. He is currently the Executive Vice President and Director of Client Relationships at Hillmann Consulting, LLC. Beyond his Riding For Warrior initiative, Nehlsen serves on the Warrior’s Wish Committee advising the program’s operations.

Thank you, Michael, for your continuous support and friendship!
