Join HOPE in giving Jesse Tavares a virtual round of applause for being honored as the June 2020 Volunteer of the Month.

Jesse, a Desert Storm veteran, has been sharing his passion of woodworking with HOPE’s Military Spouse and Caregiver Scholarship program for nearly two years. The past two semesters, Jesse has crafted handmade customized pens for each HOPE scholarship recipient that are included in the “Good Luck on Finals” care packages that are filled with self-care items, study supplies, and handmade eye pillows made by Jesse’s wife, Lynn who in the past served on HOPE Scholarship Committee.

HOPE Scholarship Program Manager, Kristy Schwartz shares, “I cannot thank Jesse enough for making these beautiful pens for each of HOPE’s scholarship recipients. They are such a meaningful touch to our care packages and the recipients are so appreciative and excited to have a personalized item made by a veteran.”

Spring 2020 Restoring Family scholarship upon receiving her care package shared the following note: “Thank you for your gift which makes me feel I am not alone and loved by someone. I appreciate your thoughtful items and the letter for me.”

Beyond supporting HOPE’s Scholarship Program Jesse and Lynn who was named the February 2019 Volunteer of the Month , are true face of HOPE in the Houston Texas community.  Together, for the past five years, they have shared their time and talents with various HOPE programs, including our holiday giving initiative, military child back pack drive, and other local events for veterans and their families. Today and every day, we thank you for your service and continued service to our warrior community.
