It is our greatest honor to highlight Elizabeth Alcala as HOPE’s November Volunteer of the Month

It’s only fitting to honor such a remarkable military spouse and caregiver during Military Family Month. Elizabeth joined our HOPE family while she and her husband, Mario, were transitioning back into civilian life in the Dallas-Fort Worth area after he was medically retired from the Marine Corps.

Both Elizabeth and Mario became connected to HOPE’s support services, and notably for Elizabeth, she was the recipient of the Restoring Self Scholarship a part of HOPE’s Military Spouses and Caregiver Scholarship program in 2017 to support her degree in Psychology.

As the family became more settled in their new home, they also became more invested in their participation in HOPE events and their desire to give back to the community. As Mario assumed a role on HOPE’s staff, Elizabeth remained committed to sharing with others the HOPE she had received.

Elizabeth was nominated by HOPE’s Major Gifts Officer, Ruth Jones, for her eagerness to help support HOPE events and willingness to share her own unique story of the impact HOPE has had on her. Together at a community event in Texas, Ruth and Elizabeth had the opportunity to work together. Reflecting on that experience, Ruth shares, “Elizabeth is a true advocate of HOPE programs as she has immense knowledge and experiences with understanding what post-9/11 military families face every day. She told the HOPE story so personally and passionately, I was proud to be a part of this organization just hearing her speak about her experience. She is loyal and caring, but most of all, strong. Elizabeth is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met.”

Beyond support events in Texas, Elizabeth has rolled up her sleeves and joined HOPE in our event work across the nation. Most recently, she volunteered to support the annual Hope For The Warriors Invitational and worked tirelessly alongside our HOPE family at this multi-day event!

Thank you, Elizabeth, for always going the extra mile to share HOPE in the warrior community and for supporting your fellow military families! You are the definition of HOPE and resilience, and we are beyond blessed to have both and your entire family a part of ours!
