SPRINGFIELD, Va. – Hope For The Warriors’ commitment to accountability and transparency have earned the national military nonprofit a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. This is the 10th consecutive year that Hope For The Warriors has earned this top distinction.
With more than 1.5 million charities in America, Charity Navigator aims to accentuate the work of efficient and transparent organizations. According to Charity Navigator, only three percent of rated charities have attained at least 10 consecutive four-star ratings.
“Hope For The Warriors’ exceptional four-star rating sets the organization apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” according to Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher. “Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our four-star rating. Based on its four-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support Hope For The Warriors.”
Since 2002, Charity Navigator has evaluated the fiscal responsibility and accountability of nonprofits, only awarding the most fiscally responsible organizations a four-star rating.
In 2011, the organization added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These accountability and transparency metrics account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, revealing which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices.
On June 1, 2016, Charity Navigator upgraded its methodology for rating each charity’s financial health with CN 2.1. with the goal of further showcasing the financial health of its four-star rated charities.
“Like every nonprofit, 2020 has been challenging for our organization which only makes this honor even more substantial,” said Hope For The Warriors CEO Robin Kelleher. “With more veterans, service members and military families in need due to the on-going pandemic, it’s as important as ever to show our donors how impactful we are in transforming the lives of our country’s warrior community, but that we’re also excellent stewards of their donations.”
Founded in 2006, Hope For The Warriors assists veterans, service members and military families with a variety of programming including clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation and transition services.
