The Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon (TRM) and national nonprofit Hope For The Warriors have announced a new alliance to assist military veterans in their efforts to transition to life back home after serving overseas. TRM became North Carolina’s largest marathon in 2016 and 100 percent of the proceeds go to charities such as Hope For The Warriors. The other primary charities TRM serves are JDRF, the American Red Cross, Rails to Trails Conservancy and Wake County Parks and Recreation.
“Serving and thanking our military veterans is one of the cornerstones of the Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon and our half Marathon. Everyone on our board of directors looks for the best and most efficient way to get that done and all of us believe in Hope For The Warriors,” said TRM President, Founder and eleven-time Boston Marathon Qualifier Kazem Yahyapour. “With the help of our sponsors, our partners and especially our North Carolina running community and runners across America we know we can make a difference.”
TRM achieved record charitable contributions from the 2016 event, at $127,500. The group reached $631,500 in cumulative giving since its first races in 2010 and has announced a goal of hitting $1,000,000 by 2019.
“Hope For The Warriors is truly honored to have the Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon as a partner in our efforts to assist veterans, service members and military families,” says Robin Kelleher, President and Co-Founder of Hope For The Warriors. “Hope For The Warriors was started aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, therefore it’s always heartwarming to have the support of N.C. residents and race participants.”
Celebrating 10 years of service, Hope For The Warriors is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for veterans, service members and military families through a variety of programming including clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation, community and military relations and transition services.
The Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon and its companion half marathon will take place March 19, 2017 in Cary, N.C. on the pine-lined American Tobacco Trail (ATT) with its flat, fast, granite-screen course.
