By Brandy Willetts, Military Wife and Hope For The Warriors Staff Member
I have had over 10 family members serve in the military since WWII. My great-grandfather, my grandmother, grandfathers, father, stepfather, uncles, brother, and my husband have all enlisted, understanding the sacrifices our family would have to make in order to defend our country’s freedom.
Even though I grew up in a military family, I didn’t fully understand the sacrifices we made, because it was just the way things were. Moving an entire household every two to three years isn’t easy. It takes resiliency, commitment and faith to uproot your family and start fresh in a new community. Not all are capable of making that kind of sacrifice.
One thing that makes it easier for a military family to transition is getting plugged into their new community by volunteering and going to church. It’s a great way to meet new people and make an impact in the community. And military families love to give back. That’s why, even when they retire and turn in their uniform, veterans and their families continue to serve. Veterans Day should be every day, to thank those who dedicate their lives to serving our country and their communities.
This holiday season, I want to express how incredibly thankful I am for not only my family members who have served and are still serving but also for all service members and veterans who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country.
I am also grateful that I am part of the Hope For The Warriors family. It is an honor to be a part of an organization that gives back to our nation’s heroes. By being a part of the HOPE family, I can dedicate my life to those who serve our country. It’s a wonderful feeling to give to those who sacrifice everything for the well-being of people they don’t even know.
Even if you don’t have family members who have served or are serving our country, you can still become a part of Hope For The Warriors. By doing so, you will become part of a life-long family comprised of service members, veterans, spouses, caregivers, military children, and warriors like yourself who understand the true sacrifices our heroes make. You can be proud and show your appreciation for our nation’s heroes. You can become a face of HOPE.
