JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (March 27, 2024) – Today, Hope For The Warriors (HOPE) and Albert J. Ellis Airport (OAJ) hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new Hope For The Warriors Military Lounge. The lounge will officially open, Tuesday, April 2 and will operate seven days a week during peak military travel times: Monday 12:30 – 8 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Wednesday – Saturday 12:30 – 6 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 – 5 p.m.

Operated and staffed by Hope For The Warriors, the newly renovated lounge is located inside the terminal, on the first level, next to baggage claim.

With the support of Food Lion and Frito Lay, snacks and beverages will be on hand for those passing through and offer all military personnel and their families (active-duty and veterans from any branch) a private place to relax, charge their phones, watch TV and learn about HOPE while traveling. There will also be a children’s corner with activities.

“Over 17 years ago, Hope For The Warriors was born aboard Camp Lejeune so it’s always heartwarming anytime HOPE can continue to directly serve military families right here in eastern North Carolina,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of the nonprofit organization. “The newly renovated space is warm, welcoming and relaxing space for all military families to utilize while passing through the OAJ airport.”

Founded aboard Camp Lejeune in 2006, Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a foundation of stability, strength and community for post-9/11 veterans, service members and military families.

“At OAJ, we place a high priority on delivering an exceptional experience to our guests, especially to those who serve our nation,” said Mitch Sprunger, airport director for Albert J. Ellis Airport. “To have an organization like the Hope For The Warriors, which was founded in Onslow County, operating a lounge that offers comfort and support to our active-duty military, veterans, and families is beyond exciting.

“The process of setting up this lounge with the Hope For The Warriors team was fun, informative, and an overall great experience. I am looking forward to promoting and continuing this incredible partnership for the foreseeable future.”
