SPRINGFIELD, Va. (Jan. 25, 2024) – Dungeons & Dragons fans will have the opportunity to become participants in a live, virtual interactive fundraiser hosted by the Hope For The Warriors Dungeons & Dragons team Thursday, February 15.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST, the live stream of “a night of chaotic fun” will begin, with volunteer dungeon master facilitating the game that will allow donations through purchasing effects from the Hope For The Warriors’ website.

The Hope For The Warriors’ (HOPE) Dungeons & Dragons describes the game theme for the night:

“Embark on an exhilarating journey into the heart of the untamed jungle with ‘The Wild Shapes!’ A literal rat pack of shape-shifting druids, they’re on a high-stakes mission to retrieve the legendary Heart of Lhasuaria. Alongside fierce rival teams and amidst the relentless dangers of dinosaurs and mythical beasts, they’ll uncover cryptic clues, navigate treacherous terrain, and engage in epic battles, all while deciding the fate of a power that could reshape the very essence of the jungle itself. Will they tame the wild magic, or will chaos reign supreme?”

The HOPE Dungeons & Dragons team is part of its sports and recreation program and is used as a therapeutic outlet for service members and veterans. HOPE’s team has been playing virtually twice a month since early 2020 and includes members from across the nation.

Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit that has served over 159,000 post 9/11 service members, veterans and military families by providing financial, career and educational stability; physical and emotional strength; and social support that builds community.

Hope’s team began play as the COVID 19 pandemic began to escalate and became a key part of many players’ lives, providing online camaraderie during the lockdown.

“I have been involved with HOPE for about two years now,” shared Chris, an U.S. Army veteran who served for eight years. “I used to play D&D in high school and college but got away from it for a while. Shortly before COVID hit in 2020, a friend told me about a group where some of his friends from the Iowa National Guard were getting started in partnership with HOPE. The time playing D&D has been something I look forward to playing each week.”

Since then, Dungeons & Dragons has allowed Hope For The Warriors to connect veterans with similar interests and allow them to use their problem-solving and strategic planning skills from the military.

“When we started the Hope For The Warriors Dungeon & Dragons team during the pandemic it was thanks to two staff members that saw a unique way to connect with service members and veterans during a very isolating time,” shared Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors Co-founder and CEO. “We love that this comradery has continued post-pandemic and are really excited about the team’s desire to help raise awareness and funds for the programs that we provide to military families across the U.S.”
