Emily Smith is an MSW intern at the Cohen Clinic and completes intake assessments, administers biopsychosocial assessments to clients, and provides individual therapy to clients under supervision. Emily obtained her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and is currently working towards her Master of Social Work at East Carolina University. While obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she completed a yearlong internship at the Onslow County Senior Center helping with case management, and at Jones County Public Schools, as a school social worker.
The Cohen Clinic resonates with Emily because she is the daughter of a Marine, and stepdaughter of another Marine. She understands that military families have a different culture that is not always understood by civilian agencies. Many of the staff at the Cohen Clinic have military affiliation, and if not are culturally competent and extensively trained to understand to the best of their ability. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her husband and two dogs at the beach, river, on walks, or anywhere outdoors.
