Programs for Veterans, Service Members and Military Families Fueled by Donation

RICHARDSON, Texas (March 20, 2017) – Avnet raised more than $22,000 through its Driving For Heroes golf event benefiting Hope For The Warriors, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for veterans, service members and military families.

Avnet is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, computer products and embedded technology serving customers in more than 125 countries.

For the second year in a row, the Richardson-based Avnet office hosted its Driving For Heroes golf event inviting its customers and suppliers to join them in support military members. In two years, the event has raised more than $45,000 to support veterans, service members and military families through Hope For The Warriors.

“Avnet Electronics takes pride in being a socially responsible and positive force in the communities in which we work and live,” said Tom Winstead, district manager of elctronics marketing for Avnet. “Our internal “Avnet Cares” program is the embodiment of this idea. Between 2009 and 2015, ‘Avnet Cares’ programs have donated $3,257,169 and 81,431 volunteer hours to local communities in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Partnering with Hope For The Warriors as the charity for our annual Customer Appreciation Golf event in Richardson has been fantastic. The work that they do speaks to our hearts, and we look forward to successful fundraising events for years to come.”

Celebrating more than 10 years of service, Hope For The Warriors assists veterans, service members and military families with a variety of programming including clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation, community and military relations and transition services.

“When Hope For The Warriors started more than a decade ago, we dreamed of businesses like Avnet supporting our initiatives,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of the nonprofit organization. “Most importantly, Avnet is truly impacting the well-being of the many veterans, service members and families who have bravely served and sacrificed for our country.”
