PINE KNOLL SHORES, N.C. (Sept. 21, 2017) – The Town of Pine Knoll Shores raised more than $71,000 through its 10th Annual Kayak for the Warriors. The annual event benefits Hope For The Warriors, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for veterans, service members and military families.

The three-day event features a 5K/1K run/walk, Warrior reception with live and silent auctions, a 3.2-mile kayak and paddle board race, and lunch.

Since 2008, Kayak for the Warriors has raised more than $450,000 benefiting Hope For The Warriors and its programs.

“As we close out our 10th anniversary year, I am so proud to be a part of the Pine Knoll Shores’ Kayak for the Warriors Team,” said event coordinator, Jean McDanal. Year after year, our all-volunteer force steps up for months ahead of time to make our three events successful. I cannot say enough about their commitment, energy, and dedication. Our wonderful donors are always there for us, too, and are an integral part of our success. We are looking forward to next year!”

Celebrating 11 years of service, Hope For The Warriors assists veterans, service members and military families with a variety of programming including clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation, community and military relations and transition services.

“Hope For The Warriors was founded aboard Camp Lejeune, so we’re extremely grateful for the continued support of the community where we started,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of the nonprofit organization. “Most importantly, the Town of Pine Knoll Shores and the Crystal Coast community is truly impacting the well-being of the many veterans, service members and families who live in Eastern N.C. and have bravely served and sacrificed for our country.”
