2008 Run For The Warriors - Camp Lejeune NC, May 17, 2008

I have never been so moved by anything like I was at the opening ceremonies before the race. My wife and I just could not control our emotions. My wife really had no idea, I mean, You see those things on TV but until you experience it live and in person you really have no concept of what these guys and their families go through. I just want to say Thanks once again to whoever organized this event because our lives have been changed forever. We will surely be there next year. Thanks and keep up the great work. You guys are truly a blessing..................J. Crawford

Members of Team Hope For The Warriors™ are fundraising for this Race. We have almost reached our $20,000 goal. Our superstar fundraiser, Nicki Nash has raised over $15,000. In addition, students from Brewster Middle School (The Wolf Team) are participating in a 26.2 mile walk/runathon over a 6 month period and fundraising. They will complete their marathon at the Run For The Warriors™. To date they have raised close to $2000 and Katherine Johnson is doing a great job raising over $1500. You can still join the team and fundraise for this Race or for any other, including the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon.

The Run For The Warriors™ is a unique event dedicated to the men and women wounded in the global war on terror and their families. It is a celebration of their strength and resolve as well as the Welcome Home they never received. By uniting the entire community, military and civilian alike, this event embraces Wounded Warriors and their families in the shared belief that there is hope beyond recovery. Racing venues are offered in a 10k, 5K and 1 mile run. This is a chip timed race. For more information about timing and chips, please see the race FAQs.

In addition to celebrating our honored guests, the many wounded service members and their families who will join us on Saturday, we are thrilled to announce our other special guests:

* Congressman Walter B. Jones - will be the guest speaker at the Opening Ceremony for the 3rd Annual Run For The Warriors™. Currently serving his 7th term in Congress, Congressman Jones is a member of the House Committees on Armed Services and Financial Services. Jones supports Hope For The Warriors™ and their newest project, The Warrior Hope & Care Center™. “I know the Warrior Hope & Care Center will provide our Wounded Warriors a nurturing environment where they can receive an array of centralized, appropriate therapies geared to meet their unique needs,” said Jones. Jones has also dedicated most of his time in Congress to preserving and protecting North Carolina’s unique history and culture.

* Melissa Jones - Country singer/songwriter, Melissa Jones, Nashville star, Melissa Jones, who has opened for such country greats as Keith Urban, Terri Clark, Collin Raye, Chris Cagel, The Oak Ridge Boys, Andy Griggs and The Marshall Tucker Band, has agreed to travel to Jacksonville to sing the National Anthem during the opening ceremonies and entertain guests with an unforgettable concert, introducing her debut album and single, Red, White and Blue Night in Georgia, a tribute to the military family. Melissa will be available to autograph her new CD, which will be available for sale at the Team Hope For The Warriors™ tent.

* Ken Berger - as the "voice" of the Marine Corps Marathon and the Army 10-Miler, Ken has announced and entertained at sporting events around the world, including the upcoming Olympic games in Beijing. In addition, Ken has done music production at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and has worked in such famed venues as Madison Square Garden in New York City and the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas. As a USMC Major (ret) Mr. Berger is dedicated to the military. His voice and talent will lend a great deal to the overall event.

* Scott Rigsby - a now world-class athlete, Scott has suffered the pain and heartache of severe injuries. Following a devasting accident, Scott Rigsby was left a double below-the-knee amputee. Scott has become not only an inspiration for challenged athletes but for the able bodied as well. His accomplishments include countless road races, marathons, triathlons and recently and most notably, the Ironman Triathlon.

Scott has turned his tragedy into the unthinkable - he sees no finish line in sight. Scott will participate in the Run and spend time with the troops following to provide motivation and inspiration. Because of his dedication to our nations heroes, Scott has offered his time to be a part of this exciting day.
