. . . . . . . . . . IMMEDIATE NEEDS

The recovery process and transition to life beyond recovery can take an unexpected financial toll on a wounded service member and their family. Travel, lengthy stays at the bedside, loss of income and new needs can create stressful financial burdens. In order to help alleviate this added stress, Hope For The Warriors™ works daily with the wounded service member and family to meet their immediate needs, allowing time to focus on recovery.

. In addition, the immediate needs program seeks to alleviate added stress and unexpected expenses of family members of fallen service members, where a financial hardship is created by delays or shortfalls in government disbursements of death gratuity benefits and SGLI.

The Immediate Needs program addresses needs that are a direct result of a service member's injury.

The following examples of immediate needs, although not a comprehensive list, have been deemed appropriate to the program:
• Travel to bedside where the government does not provide assistance.
• Rental cars
• Lodging assistance
• Assistance with child care
• Groceries
• Gas
• Clothing
• Furniture
• Emergency assistance with essentials to daily living, ie rent and utilities. This occurs during the transition between active duty and disability payments. Must be verified by active duty chain of command or VA case worker.
• Items which assist and or supplement programs at Military Treatment Facilities and VA polytrauma Units

As a general rule, Hope For The Warriors™ does not consider the purchase or repair of a vehicle an approved immediate need request.

It is only with your help that we can continue to meet the daily needs of our nation's heroes.

We would like to Hope for the Warriors and all its supporters. We have recently been blessed by receiving one of your grants. We are stationed at Ft. Riley Army Base in Kansas, where my husband is an Engineer while I teach preschool. My husband SGT. Jason Melton was injured during his tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jason spent six months in Brook Army Medical Center for his rehab. During this time our savings started to dwindle fast due to supporting two households. Between the traveling expenses and missing work to keep his spirits up, we were sinking fast. We are truly blessed he came home in one piece and received excellent care. We are thankful for organizations like yours to help deal with life's unexpected turns.

We appreciate all you have done for us.
Sincerely,
SGT. Jason & Heather Melton

As of right now, it looks like I may have gotten thru the storm. Although Gustav is stalled out and circling right above me, I can pay may bills for the first time in a very long time. I get to pay my own rent. YAY!!!!! I cannot express in words the magnitude of this situation. Nor can I express the heartfelt thank you that goes out to the people like U that help out the wounded like me that seem to struggle day after day. U have made such an impact on my life and I will forever treasure U and admire the hand that U extended to me that lifted me up off the ground. Truly an answered prayer. Thank U Thank U Thank U!!!

MEDICAL ID BRACELETS - SAVE A LIFE
Hope For The Warriors™ is proud to partner with American Medical ID to provide quality medical identification jewelry to Wounded Warriors. Co-founder, Shannon Maxwell, experienced first hand the benefit of a medical alert device when her husband collapsed from a grand mal seizure one year after his injury. Unable to have an MRI due to retained shrapnel in his brain and yet unable to speak for himself, had it not been for the medical id bracelet he wore; doctors would have proceeded with an MRI, unknowledgeable of the consequences of those actions.

Our wounded service members deserve every chance for continued recovery – to include the prevention of unintended consequences and less optimal, potentially harmful intervention of medical response teams, who are not made aware of a chronic or rare condition, allergies and use of multiple medications or blood thinners, when that Warrior cannot speak for his or herself. You can help sponsor this potentially life saving gift for our Warriors by clicking on our Donate Today link or by ordering your own medical identification jewelry through American Medical ID. Your purchase can make a difference. Through our partnership, American Medical ID will donate a portion of their sales to Hope For The Warriors™.
